ALBUM OUT NOW

Berkeley Pit just finished their second album, There’s No Easy Way Down.

Berkeley Pit is a Seattle-based recording project featuring James Nugent, Mike Watt, Ben Erickson, and Eric Piippo. All four used to be in a Seattle band called Mountain Con (1999-2006). Other members of the Mountain Con family also contributed to the project. Pierre Ferguson played bass on a number of tracks. Erik Blood mixed the album. Dustin Winegardner provided metaphysical guidance and earth-friendly socks.

James Nugent edited and made the music for the David Shields film Lynch: A History, which premiered in 2019 at SIFF. He also recently worked with Shabazz Palaces on the video for “Chocolate Souffle.”

Berkeley Pit sounds like LCD Soundsystem and War on Drugs made an album together. Or Remain in Light-era Talking Heads jammed with Blue-era Joni Mitchell. Or Kevin Morby did a cover of Moses Sumney’s “Rank & File” with 20 new verses written by Joanna Newsom. And they were all listening to Bob Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde and TV on the Radio’s Dear Science every night when they got back to their hotels.
